No account. No login. Ever.
Add participants
Enter everyone's name. Tag dietary preferences (Veg, Vegan) and who had drinks so item assignment is accurate.
Scan or enter items
Upload a receipt photo for automatic OCR, or type items manually. Assign each item to who ordered it.
Record who paid
Mark who fronted the bill. Works across multiple venues with different payers in one event.
Settle up
Get the fewest transfers needed to clear all debts. Tax, tip, and discounts are split proportionally.
Is 8bitSplit free?
Yes, completely free. Quick Split and Rent & Utils run entirely in your browser. Group Split events are stored server-side and expire after 7 days, with a one-click extend option.
How does proportional splitting work?
Each person's share is weighted by the cost of what they ordered. Tax, tip, and discounts are distributed in the same proportion — someone who ordered more pays a larger share of the extras.
Can I split a bill with dietary restrictions?
Yes. Tag participants as Veg or Vegan. Items are auto-classified by name and can be assigned to specific people, so non-vegetarians don't share the salad bill.
We went to multiple places — can I track all of them?
Start a Group Split, add a venue for each place, and record who paid where. 8bitSplit consolidates everything into the minimum number of transfers at the end.
Why does the settle-up show me paying someone who didn't cover my venue?
Debts are mathematically consolidated to minimise transfers. The total you pay is always exactly your share — it's just routed efficiently through fewer transactions.
Can other people see or edit my Group Split?
Only if you share access — nothing is public by default. From the Co-op panel on an event, invite a Buddy for edit access (venues and items, capped slots) or a Watcher for view-only access, shared as a link or a one-time code. Both are separate from your own creator access, which never leaves your device.
Can I install 8bitSplit as an app?
Yes. On Android, tap Install when the prompt appears (or use Chrome's menu) for a real app-drawer icon. On iPhone or iPad, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen — Apple doesn't allow a one-tap install from the browser itself.
